Deliquescence
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002972
The property of certain solid substances to absorb moisture from the atmosphere to such an extent that they dissolve in the absorbed water and form a solution. This phenomenon occurs when the vapor pressure of the saturated solution formed is lower than the partial pressure of water vapor in the surrounding air. Calcium chloride is a common deliquescent substance.
