Thioaldehydes

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012008

Organic compounds containing a thiocarbonyl group (C=S) where the carbon atom is bonded to a hydrogen atom and an alkyl or aryl group. These compounds are sulfur analogues of aldehydes, with the oxygen atom replaced by sulfur. Simple thioaldehydes are highly reactive and readily polymerize or cyclize, but sterically hindered or conjugated examples can be stable.
