Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000628

A ring-like structure, a term used in neuroanatomy to describe specific formations. In the context of the spine, the annulus fibrosus is the tough, circular exterior of the intervertebral disc that surrounds the soft inner core, the nucleus pulposus. This structure is composed of concentric sheets of collagen fibers, which provide the strength to withstand compressive forces on the spine.
