Intervertebral disc

A fibrocartilaginous cushion located between adjacent vertebrae in the spinal column, acting as a shock absorber and allowing for spinal flexibility. Each disc consists of an outer fibrous ring, the annulus fibrosus, and an inner gel-like core, the nucleus pulposus. Damage to these discs can lead to pain and neurological symptoms.
