Vertebral column
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012551
The flexible column of bones (vertebrae) extending from the skull to the pelvis, enclosing the spinal cord and forming the main axis of the skeleton. It is composed of cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, and coccygeal vertebrae, separated by intervertebral discs. The vertebral column provides structural support and protection for the central nervous system, and its integrity can be compromised by neurotoxicants or developmental toxicants affecting bone or cartilage.
