Axial skeleton

The central part of the vertebrate skeleton, comprising the bones of the head, trunk, and vertebral column. It provides support and protection for the brain, spinal cord, and organs within the thorax. In humans, this includes the skull, ossicles of the middle ear, hyoid bone, rib cage, and vertebral column.
