Cervical vertebra

Any of the seven vertebrae (C1-C7) that form the cervical spine in the neck region. These vertebrae are smaller than those in other spinal regions and are characterized by transverse foramina, which allow passage of the vertebral arteries. The first two, atlas and axis, are specialized for head movement.
