Cervix

The lower, narrow portion of the uterus that connects to the upper part of the vagina. This fibromuscular structure forms a canal that allows for the passage of menstrual fluid from the uterus and sperm into the uterus. The cells lining the cervix are routinely sampled during a Papanicolaou (Pap) test to screen for precancerous or cancerous changes.
