Papanicolaou smear

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008431

A cytological screening method for detecting precancerous and cancerous conditions of the uterine cervix. The procedure involves collecting exfoliated cells from the cervix, which are then fixed, stained using the Papanicolaou method, and examined under a microscope for abnormalities in cell morphology. This specific staining technique uses a combination of hematoxylin, Orange G, and eosin azure to highlight features of the cell nucleus and cytoplasm, aiding in the identification of dysplasia.
