Pancytopenia
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008430
A shortage of all three kinds of blood cell at once: red cells (anemia), white cells (leukopenia) and platelets (thrombocytopenia). It arises from bone marrow failure, certain infections or exposure to toxic substances, and it is detected by a complete blood count. Aplastic anemia, in which the marrow stops producing blood cells, is a classic cause.
