Silver staining

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010867

A histological technique that uses silver ions to visualize specific cellular components, such as proteins, nucleic acids, or neuronal structures, by depositing metallic silver. The silver ions are reduced to insoluble metallic silver, which appears as dark brown or black precipitates under a microscope. This method is particularly sensitive for detecting low concentrations of target molecules.
