Interzonal region

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006003

The region in a flame, located between the primary reaction zone and the secondary combustion zone, that is in thermal equilibrium but not chemical equilibrium. In this area, the initial combustion products from the inner zone undergo further reactions with the surrounding atmosphere. For analytical flame spectrometry, this region is often the most suitable for observation because it provides a combination of high temperature and a stable chemical environment.
