Separated flame

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010753

A premixed flame whose observed region is shielded from room air mechanically, by a tube fitted around the flame on top of the burner, which creates a zone boundary between the flame gases and the air. When the shielding is done instead by a curtain of inert gas flowing out of holes in the rim of the burner, the result is called a shielded flame.
