Separation factor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010754
A quantitative measure of the effectiveness of a separation process in distinguishing between two components. It is defined as the ratio of the distribution ratios or partition coefficients of the two components between the two phases involved in the separation. A separation factor greater than one indicates that one component is preferentially enriched in one phase relative to the other.
