Relative biological effectiveness

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010136

A factor used in radiobiology to compare the biological damage caused by different types of ionizing radiation for the same absorbed dose. It is the ratio of the absorbed dose of a reference radiation (typically X-rays or gamma rays) to the absorbed dose of the radiation in question that produces the same biological effect. This factor accounts for the varying biological impact of different radiation qualities.
