Intolerance

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006004

A physiological response to a substance that does not involve the immune system, distinguishing it from an allergy. These non-immunological reactions are often caused by an inability to metabolize or process a specific compound due to an enzyme deficiency. For example, lactose intolerance results from a deficiency of the lactase enzyme, leading to gastrointestinal symptoms after consuming dairy products.
