Food intolerance

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004579

A non-immunological adverse physiological response to a food or food component at a dose normally tolerated. The reaction results from an inability to process or metabolize the substance, such as in lactose intolerance, which is caused by a deficiency of the enzyme lactase. Unlike a food allergy, it does not involve the immune system and its symptoms are generally less severe.
