Pitting corrosion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008985
A localized form of corrosion that results in the creation of small holes or pits on a metal surface. These pits can be deep and narrow, leading to structural failure even when the overall mass loss due to corrosion is minimal. This type of corrosion is particularly dangerous because it is difficult to detect in its early stages.
