Activation energy
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003272
The minimum amount of energy required for a chemical reaction to occur, leading to the formation of an activated complex or transition state. In atmospheric chemistry, this energy barrier must be overcome for molecules to react, influencing the rate at which pollutants are formed or degraded. Reactions with high activation energies are typically slower at ambient atmospheric temperatures.
