Hydrolysis

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006340

A chemical reaction in which water molecules break one or more chemical bonds in another compound. In atmospheric chemistry, hydrolysis can occur when certain gases or aerosols react with atmospheric water vapor, leading to the formation of new compounds. This process contributes to the removal of pollutants from the atmosphere and the formation of secondary aerosols, influencing air quality and cloud formation.
