Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-013690

1. A chemical reaction that occurs between a substance and water resulting in the cleaving of a molecular bond and the formation of new bonds with components of the decomposed water molecule; a reaction of water with a salt to create an acid or a base.

2. (hi-DROLL-uh-sis) A chemical reaction in which a compound is converted into another compound by taking up water.

3. Decomposition reaction involving the splitting of a chemical substance by water

4. The decomposition of organic compounds by interaction with water.

5. The process of cleaving a chemical compound by the addition of a molecule of water.
