Activated charcoal
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000171
A form of carbon processed to have a highly porous structure and a large surface area, making it effective for adsorption. This material is produced by heating carbonaceous substances in the absence of oxygen, followed by activation with steam or chemicals. It finds application in purification processes, such as water filtration and air purification, due to its ability to trap molecules within its pores.
