Charcoal

A lightweight, porous, black carbonaceous material produced by heating wood or other organic substances in the absence of oxygen, a process known as pyrolysis or carbonization. It consists primarily of carbon, with residual ash and volatile matter. Charcoal is widely used as a fuel, an adsorbent, and in art.
