Neuroinflammation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007879

An inflammatory response occurring within the brain or spinal cord, involving the activation of glial cells such as microglia and astrocytes. This process is a protective mechanism against infection, injury, or toxins, but chronic or excessive neuroinflammation can contribute to neurodegenerative diseases. It involves the release of cytokines, chemokines, and reactive oxygen species.
