Neuroleptic

A class of psychotropic drugs, also known as antipsychotics, used primarily to manage psychosis, including delusions, hallucinations, and disordered thought, particularly in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. These agents act by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain, especially the D2 receptor subtype. Neuroleptics are classified as either typical (first-generation) or atypical (second-generation) based on their receptor binding profiles and side effects.
