Bipolar disorder

A mental disorder characterized by extreme shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels, cycling between periods of elevated mood (mania or hypomania) and periods of depression. These mood episodes involve marked changes in behavior, thinking, and sleep patterns that interfere with daily functioning. The disorder is associated with imbalances in neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, and is treated with mood stabilizers like lithium salts.
