Serotoninergic

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010773

Relating to neurons, synapses, or physiological processes that produce, release, or are activated by the neurotransmitter serotonin, also known as 5-hydroxytryptamine. These systems are involved in the regulation of mood, appetite, sleep, and cognition. Many antidepressant medications, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), function by targeting serotoninergic pathways to increase the availability of serotonin in the brain.
