GABAergic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004739
Relating to neurons, synapses, or physiological processes that produce, release, or are acted upon by the neurotransmitter γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA). GABAergic neurons are the primary source of synaptic inhibition in the central nervous system of mammals. Drugs that act on GABAergic systems, such as benzodiazepines and barbiturates, modulate the activity of GABA receptors to produce sedative, anxiolytic, or anticonvulsant effects.
