Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010682
A class of antidepressant drugs that primarily increase the extracellular level of the neurotransmitter serotonin by inhibiting its reuptake into the presynaptic neuron. This action prolongs the presence of serotonin in the synaptic cleft, enhancing its effects. Common examples include fluoxetine and sertraline, widely used to treat depression and anxiety disorders.
