Selective solvent
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010683
A solvent that preferentially dissolves one block or segment of a block copolymer while acting as a non-solvent or poor solvent for another block. This differential solubility drives the self-assembly of block copolymers into ordered nanostructures in solution. For example, water is a selective solvent for poly(ethylene glycol) blocks but not for polystyrene blocks.
