Polymer solvent
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009188
A liquid capable of dissolving a polymer to form a thermodynamically stable solution at a specified temperature. In a good solvent, polymer-solvent interactions are favored over polymer-polymer interactions, causing the polymer coil to expand. The quality of a solvent is quantified by parameters such as the Flory-Huggins interaction parameter (χ), where a value less than 0.5 indicates a good solvent.
