Polyvinyl ether

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009256

A vinyl polymer prepared from a vinyl ether monomer, CH2=CH-OR, in which each repeat unit is CH2-CH(OR), with an alkoxy or aryloxy group hanging from a saturated carbon backbone. It is usually made by cationic polymerization, which proceeds as a living process under suitable conditions and gives controlled molar mass. Poly(methyl vinyl ether) and poly(ethyl vinyl ether) are well-known members and are used in adhesives.
