Polyvinyl ester

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009255

A vinyl polymer characterized by the presence of an ester group as the pendant side group attached to the polymer backbone. These polymers are produced by the polymerization of vinyl ester monomers, with vinyl acetate being the most common example. The resulting polyvinyl acetate is a widely used adhesive and a component in emulsion paints, and its hydrolysis yields polyvinyl alcohol.
