Vinyl carbenes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012577
Carbenes in which the divalent carbon atom is directly attached to a carbon atom of a carbon-carbon double bond, giving the structure R₂C=CR−C̈R. These reactive intermediates can exhibit properties of both carbenes and 1,3-dipolar compounds. Vinyl carbenes are known to undergo characteristic intramolecular reactions, such as rearrangement to form cyclopropenes or cyclopentadienes, depending on the substituents and reaction conditions.
