Psychosis

A mental state characterized by a loss of contact with reality, involving symptoms such as delusions (false beliefs) and hallucinations (perceiving things that are not present). It represents a severe disruption in thought and perception, affecting a person's ability to function. In neurotoxicology, exposure to certain substances, including some pharmaceuticals and drugs of abuse, can induce psychotic episodes as an adverse effect on the central nervous system.
