Psychotropic

Describing a substance that affects mental activity, behavior, or perception by altering brain function. These compounds interact with neurotransmitter systems in the central nervous system, leading to changes in mood, thought processes, or consciousness. Many psychotropic drugs are used in the treatment of psychiatric disorders, such as antidepressants or antipsychotics.
