Antiemetic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000677
A drug that is effective in the prevention or treatment of nausea and vomiting (emesis). These agents act on the nervous system, primarily by blocking neurotransmitter receptors involved in the vomiting reflex, which is coordinated by the brainstem's chemoreceptor trigger zone and vomiting center. Common classes of antiemetics include serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonists like ondansetron and dopamine D2 receptor antagonists such as metoclopramide.
