Antagonist
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000651
A substance that binds to a receptor but does not activate it, thereby blocking the action of an agonist. In pharmacology, antagonists are often used as drugs to inhibit specific physiological responses. For example, beta-blockers are antagonists that block the effects of adrenaline on beta-adrenergic receptors.
