Image current detection
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005592
A method of detecting ions in a mass spectrometer, particularly in Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometry, by measuring the oscillating electrical current induced by the coherent motion of ions. As ions orbit in a magnetic field, their collective motion induces an image current in detection plates. This current is then Fourier transformed to yield a mass spectrum.
