Quadrupole ion storage trap
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013457
A device that confines ions with a chosen range of mass-to-charge ratios on stable trajectories using a static field plus a radiofrequency electric quadrupole field. The classic three-dimensional design uses a ring electrode between two end-cap electrodes, whereas linear traps use four rods. Trapped ions can be accumulated, reacted or ejected by mass for detection.
