Quadrupolar relaxation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009724
A nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxation mechanism that arises from the interaction of a quadrupolar nuclide's electric quadrupole moment with fluctuating electric field gradients at the nucleus. This interaction provides an efficient pathway for the nucleus to return to its equilibrium spin state, leading to faster relaxation times and broader NMR signals. It is a dominant relaxation mechanism for nuclei with spin I > 1/2.
