Rectilinear ion trap
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010033
A linear quadrupole ion trap whose electrodes are flat rectangular plates instead of the hyperbolic or round rods of a conventional linear trap. The plates carry the radio frequency potentials, slits in some of them allow ion injection and ejection, and DC potentials on end electrodes hold ions along the axis. It traps ions in a two-dimensional radio frequency field, in contrast to the three-dimensional field of a Paul ion trap.
