Rectum

The final section of the large intestine, which terminates at the anal canal. Its primary physiological function is the temporary storage of feces prior to elimination from the body. In toxicological studies, the rectum can be a route for substance administration or a tissue examined for local irritation, absorption characteristics, and histopathological changes following exposure to a xenobiotic.
