Administration of drugs vaginal route
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000271
The delivery of a drug into the vagina, primarily for local action on the surrounding tissues but also for systemic absorption into the bloodstream. This route avoids first-pass metabolism in the liver, which can increase the bioavailability of certain compounds compared to oral administration. Common dosage forms for this route include creams, gels, suppositories, tablets, and vaginal rings designed for controlled release.
