Radial ejection
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009802
The sideways removal of ions from a trap, at right angles to its central axis, as in a linear ion trap whose rods carry slots. Ions are driven out by resonant excitation or by changing the applied radiofrequency amplitude, which makes their trajectories unstable in the radial direction. Ejected ions then strike a detector placed beside the trap, which gives a mass spectrum.
