Magnetic field scan

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006902

A method of obtaining a mass spectrum by systematically varying the strength of the magnetic field in a magnetic sector mass spectrometer. This change alters the trajectory of ions passing through the field, allowing ions of different mass-to-charge ratios to be sequentially focused onto the detector. In this mode, the accelerating voltage and electric sector voltage are held constant throughout the scan.
