Bactericide

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001094

A chemical substance or physical agent capable of killing bacteria. Unlike a bacteriostatic agent, which only inhibits bacterial growth and reproduction, a bactericide causes irreversible damage to the bacterial cell, leading to its death. The effectiveness of a bactericide is measured by its minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), the lowest concentration that kills 99.9% of the initial bacterial population.
