Differential
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003165
A laboratory blood test that measures the percentage of each type of white blood cell present in a blood sample. This analysis, formally known as a differential white blood cell count, provides a more detailed picture of the immune system's status than a simple total white blood cell count. The test quantifies the relative proportions of neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils, and shifts in these percentages can indicate infection, inflammation, or exposure to immunotoxic substances.
