Skin immune system

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010930

The network of cells and soluble factors within the skin that provides a defense against pathogens and environmental insults. It comprises cellular components like Langerhans cells, dendritic cells, keratinocytes, and resident T lymphocytes, which work together to initiate and regulate immune responses. The skin immune system is a primary barrier and is involved in both innate and adaptive immunity, responding to allergens, microbes, and chemical exposures.
