Intercalation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005926

The reversible insertion of guest molecules or ions into the layered structure of a host material, without significantly altering the host's framework. This process often leads to changes in the host material's physical and chemical properties. It is a common phenomenon in polymer nanocomposites where polymer chains are inserted between layers of inorganic fillers.
